Ottawa IT Camp Speakers 2011

 
Jean-René Roy, DevTeach    
Jean-René Roy has been developing IT solution for large and small enterprises since 1987. In 1991 he founded the consulting firm Technologies SoftDesign Inc.

Since that time he has worked on projects for House of Commons, Innovapost, Bell Canada, CGI, ArchiDATA, Sun Telcom, Kraft, and many other clients assuming the responsibility of Business Analyst, Software Architect, Software Developers, Analyst, Team leader and mentor. He has been and is still very active in the developers’ community by acting as a user group leader for more than ten years with the Montreal .NET community and the Ottawa .NET community.

He is also the co-founder of an international developer’s conference www.DevTeach.com which is now directed by a member of his team. Jean-René Roy is a SQL Server Microsoft MVP and is co-lead and mentor for the OttawaSQL.net BI study group.

 


 
Islam Gomaa
Islam Gomaa is a IT infrastructure manager at e-academy. He has over nine years of experience in IT in a Windows Server environment. Additionally, he has 4 years of experience deploying and implementing System Center Data Protection Manager in several sites. Islam is a member of the Ottawa Windows Server User Group executive committee and the Team Lead of the SharePoint study group.

 


 
Wesley MacDonald, LIKE 10 INC.  
Wes MacDonald is a Visual Studio Team System MVP, MCTS and a Principal Consultant for LIKE 10 INC., a SharePoint Server and Team Foundation Server Consulting Firm with offices in Ottawa. As a Senior Developer/Architect with over 10 years of experience has been responsible for all aspects of software development and provides technical leadership to his clients and the .NET developer community. He also gives regular presentations on SharePoint and Team Foundation Server at the local user groups.

 


 
Mitch Garvis, Montreal It Professionals Community  
After beta-testing Windows Vista for over a year Mitch Garvis was invited to Redmond to work with Microsoft Learning to review several Vista certification exams. Over the past several years Mitch has established himself as a leader in the Small Business Server community, and has worked with Microsoft to improve that program. Mitch is the founding president of the Montreal IT Professionals Community, and has helped user groups across Canada and the United States. He has been recognized for his community efforts with the Microsoft MVP Award. He is a Microsoft Certified Trainer and currently works with SMB Nation as a writer and trainer. He lives alone, has no pets, and has never been to Cleveland.

 


 
Brad Bird
Brad is a lead technical consultant and MCT certified trainer based in Ottawa, ON. 2-time recipient of the Microsoft Most Valuable Professional (MVP) award for 2010 in the Virtual Machine domain and Management Infrastructure in 2009. He is also a member of the Windows Springboard Technical Expert Panel (STEP) for Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2 having delivered STEP presentations as an evangelist in Quebec City, QC and St-Johns, Newfoundland. Brad is a writer for Tech Republic and contributes monthly to the Network Administration and IT Security weblogs. Brad has authored Microsoft partner training courses for System Center Configuration Manager 2007 which have been delivered around the world. Brad also authored some webcasts on Data Protection Manager 2007 including 300 level “Protecting Applications with DPM2007” and 400 level “Advanced Features and Capabilities of DPM2007” also used in Microsoft partner training. Brad is also a Microsoft Certified Trainer having delivered courses in Security+, AD, AD Security, SCOM, SCCM, DPM, VMM, and Microsoft Desktop Optimization Platform. Brad actively consults to large organizations helping them architect, implement, configure and customize System Center technologies integrating them into their business processes. He is also an active consultant, and contributor to the support community. Brad presented in both the Architecture and Virtualization Tracks for TechDays 2009 and 2008 in both Montreal and Ottawa as well as at the 2009 Microsoft Management Summit in Las Vegas. He was the Systems Management and Security track co-lead Microsoft Canada representative for TechDays 2009 in Canada. He was a representative for Canada at TechEd 2009 in Los Angeles, CA. Brad maintains a weblog “Rantings of an IT Pirate” at http://owsug.ca/blogs/brad/default.aspx where content is replicated to the popular MyITForum and “The Lazy Admin” websites. He has extensive experience with Active Directory Services, Anti-intrusion detection and prevention and Forensics, Computer Security, and Microsoft System Center and Virtualization technologies in the enterprise.

 


 
Edwin Sarmiento    
Edwin Sarmiento is a Microsoft SQL Server MVP from Ottawa, Canada specializing in high availability, disaster recovery and system infrastructures running on the Microsoft server technology stack. He is very passionate about technology but has interests in music, professional and organizational development, leadership and management matters when not working with databases. He lives up to his primary mission statement - "To help people grow and develop their full potential as God has planned for them" He wants the whole world to know that the FILIPINO is a world-class citizen and brings JESUS CHRIST to the world.

 


 
Christian Coté, IA-TechConsulting.com  
I have been in IT for almost 12 years. I am a Microsoft Certified Technical Specialist in Business Intelligence (MCTS-BI). For about the last 9 years, I have been involved as a consultant in ETL/BI projects. My ETL projects were done using various ETL tools as well as using plain code with various RDBMS (Oracle, SQL Server). I am currently working on my fourth SSIS implementation in 2 years.

 


 
Christian Beauclair, Microsoft  
As a senior developer evangelist Christian shares his passion for software development in all its different facets with the Canadian ITC community. He has coded in Modula-2, xBase, VB, VB.NET and now C#. His passion extends to games and various collectibles. Christian is responsible for nurturing the Canadian Local Software Community through Microsoft support programs such as BizSpark and Microsoft Platform Ready.

 

 
Matt Masson, Microsoft   
Matt Masson is a Software Development Engineer working with the SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) team. Matt has worked on many aspects of the SSIS product including upgrade, performance, and overall user experience. He is a frequent presenter at Microsoft conferences, and maintains the SSIS Team blog. Prior to joining Microsoft in 2006, Matt was a developer on a number of BI Reporting and Analytical products.

 


 
Joel Hébert, Opulent ASP  
Joël Hébert [ASP.NET MVP] is the Director and Chief Architect at Opulent ASP Development Inc. where he works as a consultant specializing in ASP.NET Enterprise Architecture/Development. He has developed large-scale web applications and Computer Aided Audit Tools for CaseWare-IDEA and is currently working on federal government projects. Joel is a long standing member of the Ottawa .Net Community’s steering committee and has been involved in many of its projects including; the “The Developers” TV show, Inter-User Group Challenges, and a number of MCAD/MCTS study groups. Joel is also responsible for introducing & hosting the Product Discovery Showcases at the events.

 


 
Peter Ritchie
Peter Ritchie is a software development consultant. Peter is president of Peter Ritchie Inc. Software Consulting Co., a software consulting company in Canada's National Capital Region specialyzing in Windows-based software development management, process, and implementation consulting. Peter has worked with such cliets as Mitel, Nortel, Passport Canada, Innvapost from mentoring to architecture to implementation. Peter's range of experience ranges from designing and implement simple stand-alone applications to architecting n-tier applications spanning dozens of computers; from C++ to C#.

 


 
Charles Wiebe
Charles Wiebe is a Microsoft .NET software architect/designer, for Windows Forms and ASP.NET solutions. Charles specializes in the application layer – Web Parts and other ways of building GUI’s. Currently, Charles is responsible for the User Interface components used in COR and Jetfire.  TrackerRealm provides .net consulting services and is currently expanding the Jetfire product line. John and Charles are co-developers of Jetfire – a .net open source, multiuser, application domain specific language (DSL) with syntax heavily based on C# and Java. The goal of Jetfire is to allow power users to quickly and easily develop and deploy applications, in much the same way as Excel allows powers users to quickly develop spread sheets.

 


 
Taswar Bhatti  
Taswar Bhatti works as a Web Architect for MultiCorpora R& D Inc, based in Gatineau Hull. He has over 11 years of software development experience, team leading, in a diverse set of environments (Universities, Social Networking, Conferencing Solutions to In-Memory Language Translation) and technologies, from Unix/Linux to the Microsoft stack.

 


 
John Hansen
John Hansen is a Microsoft .NET software architect/designer. John specializes in high capacity object oriented systems and connectivity. Ahmed Al-Asaad, Lajak Technologies Inc.  
Ahmed Al-Asaad is an independent consultant. He has expertise in leading teams, software architecture, systems integration, Biztalk, Windows client and web development, SOA, SQL Server and other technologies. Ahmed has a Bachelor degree in Computer Systems Engineering and a Master's degree in Technology Innovation Management. He is a Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) in Windows Forms and SQL Server.

Colin Melia is the hands-on Principal Architect for DreamDigital, a hands-on Architect for over 17 years, a technical speaker and trainer on Microsoft technologies, as well as a user group leader in Ottawa.

He has expertise in the areas of rich UI with WPF/Silverlight, cloud development with Azure and BI with SQL Server, along with in-depth knowledge of core technologies such as .NET, OData, WCF, WF, LINQ and WIF. He has developed award-winning simulation technology with rich UI, cloud-based learning portals and workflow-driven BI systems. He also created the first streaming video community site with Windows Media. Colin has worked in the finance, telecoms, e-learning, Internet communications, learning and gaming industries, with his latest business solutions currently in use by thousands of users world-wide in corporations like GE, HP, O2, Cisco, IBM, Microsoft & Reuters.

Being British, the constant confusion caused by his likeness to High Grant is indeed a burden but he can live with it, and while you may have seen him moonlighting as the acerbic judge on American Idol, he’ll be sparing you the low-cut v-neck t-shirts.

 


 
Peter Henry, Privasoft
 
Peter Henry is a C# code-head who likes to talk, uh, share technical knowledge. During the day, he’s a C# developer with Privasoft and at night, googles esoteric .NET APIs, t-sql functions and other cool material for his blog to try to help other likeminded C# geeks. Peter has helped out with Four ODNC study groups helping other deveopers obtain their Microsoft certifications as well as presented before at the ODNC and OCC/Ott IT Days.

 


 
Colin Smith, Cistel Technology Inc.  
Colin Smith is an IT professional with over 20 years of experience deploying Microsoft-based solutions for the private and public sector and has helped organizations plan virtualization and cloud-based deployment and migration strategies. Colin has been a consultant, solutions architect, and systems engineer with Microsoft, Statistics Canada, Configuresoft, and is currently the Manager of the Microsoft Consulting Practice at Cistel Technology Inc. (a Microsoft Gold Partner in Ottawa, Canada)..
